My Photography Journey

Black & White

GLISTENING GLASSWARE

Rows and rows of glassware arranged in a market in Mumbai

This is a regular scene from the busy market streets of Mumbai. A glassware vendor had neatly arranged his goods. I got this wonderful light since the sun was just about to set.

REGROWTH

This is a black & white image of a tree on a cliff with a foreground of a boulder and the background of contrasting clouds

This magical image was taken on a trek to Gudibande Fort, which has a breathtaking view of the landscape below. Just as we exited a cave we explored, I noticed this lonely tree breaching the fort walls. I liked the different textures behind and in front of the subject. I converted this image to black and white since I wanted it to have equal importance for all parts of the image.

ANCIENT

This is a black and white image of a dry bush on a few boulders.

I found this artistic dried bush during a trek to GudiBande fort. Yes, I did add the noise (grain) and the slight yellowish tint to make this image look old. I love the texture and the shadows of this image.

COEXISTENCE

Coexistence

At Venugopala temple in Hampi, I wandered around an old dry tree to find subjects. I was sure to find something around the tangled branches of the tree. Soon enough, I found a lone branch with the Gopura (The name of the top structure of a temple.) at its height. I converted the image to Black & White to avoid the color of the cloud, which was a distraction.

THE TUNNEL SPIDER

Find me if you can!

My family and I went on a road trip to a famous mountain. There were tourists everywhere. So we had to rest for a while so that we could get some time for ourselves. We parked our vehicle on a mud road nearby. My father and I set out with our cameras. Soon, my father spotted a signature spider. When I spotted many colorful butterflies. When my father finished clicking, he went for a small walk. When he came back, he told me that there were a lot of tent spiders everywhere.

When I slept down to capture it, it ran inside its tunnel. After two minutes, the spider slowly came out. I had to stay still. It was getting scared when I clicked the shutter of my camera. The spider got used to it after some time. That’s when I clicked this picture!

THE Monsoon Web

This is an image of thousands of dew drops on a giant wood spider's with web, with out-of-focus bare trees in the background

This is a Giant wood spider (Nephila), on a cloudy winter morning in my native, Sringeri. If you look closely, you can see thousands of dew drops on this delicate web. It was spotted by my father a few days ago. I love how the barren trees complement this frame.

THE PORTRAIT OF A HOUSEFLY

Looking at me!

This image was taken at my cousin’s place, Alike. While I was capturing another Jewel Bug in the same plant, I saw this housefly coming and sitting on a small twig. It was monsoon, so, there was not much light. Since there wasn’t much light, the housefly stood in the same place for a long time to warm up its wings.

BUSY

This is a man who is weaving a traditional silk saree in Varanasi. I wanted it to be a creative shot, so I captured it with a long exposure.

Autograph

This palm leaf had been carved out by a caterpillar. I included a few out-of-focus in the background to make this leaf stand out.

OBscure

When I was exploring our backyard in my native Sringeri, I found many tunnel spiders. Early in the morning, there was a lot of dew on the web. So I got the opportunity to capture an image of the web with lots of bokeh on it.

airborne

When on a boat ride in Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, I spotted many birds in the water feeding on the fish. Then I got this unique shot just when a bird was just taking off.

THE LANDING

When I was exploring a park near my home during the golden hour, I spotted this insect on a flower.

The ghats of Varanasi

I took this image while on a boat ride in the busy ghats of Varanasi. I like this image because of the many boats in the foreground and the crowd in the background.

This is a sculpture of a lion made using scrap metals. I took an in-camera double exposure with the lion in one frame and a flower in the other.

water colours

I took this image of a signature spider during a spider camp in Mysore. I took a shot of it on purpose since the result looks like a painting made with watercolours.

a spotlight

This is an image of a signature spider that had built its web inside the fold of a leaf. The spider was perfectly spotlit by the rising sun.
